Dr. Layne Holmes
Dr. Layne Holmes is a 1992 graduate of Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He started his career as a veterinarian at a race track and small animal practice in Texas before moving to a sport horse referral practice in Wisconsin. Dr. Holmes completed a surgery residency at Virginia Tech in 2001. Here he received advanced training in lameness diagnostics and treatment, as well as surgical management of cases such as colic, fracture repair, arthroscopy, upper airway disease and wound reconstruction. This experience also provided him with a broad exposure to advanced internal medicine and critical care cases in the equine arena.
He moved on to serve as an assistant clinical professor, equine emergency clinician and surgeon at the Kansas State University Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital from 2001 to 2004. Later, he returned to equine private practice in Wisconsin and then Texas. He spent the last 7 years in small animal and mixed animal practice. He has a keen interest in all things surgical and has completed and continues to train for advanced surgical procedures for both small animals and horses. He also performs orthopedic surgeries. We had the good fortune to have Dr. Holmes join our team in September 2012.
When free time is available, Dr. Holmes enjoys riding his horse, hiking with his dog, gourmet cooking and nature photography. He enjoys all facets of equine and small animal veterinary medicine and looks forward to serving the needs of those special companion animals and their owners.
